Tesla is now accepting applications for its Electrical Engineering Internship – Cell Manufacturing (Summer 2025). This is a full-time, on-site internship opportunity starting in May 2025 and continuing through the summer term, with the potential to extend into Fall 2025.
This internship is designed for passionate, driven students who want to contribute to innovative, high-impact engineering projects. Interns work closely with experienced professionals and gain hands-on exposure to advanced manufacturing, automation, and electrical control systems.

Internship Role and Responsibilities
Tesla offers internship opportunities in two key engineering groups:
1. Advanced Automation Electrical Engineering
As an intern in this team, you will:
- Design and commission machine control systems for Tesla’s cutting-edge 4680 Cell Manufacturing lines.
- Work with Tesla’s in-house engineering and external vendors to develop innovative automation solutions.
- Own and manage the electrical controls design for high-speed manufacturing operations across Tesla’s global facilities.
2. Electrical Design Engineering
As an intern in this group, you will:
- Gain hands-on experience with electronics, firmware, and testing systems.
- Own significant design and test projects, driving real-world impact while being supported by mentorship.
- Collaborate across departments to innovate and improve manufacturing technology.
Skills and Qualifications
- Solid understanding of electrical control panel design, wiring, and instrumentation.
- Familiar with selecting circuit protection devices, sensors, VFDs, PLC hardware, remote I/O, servo systems, and safety components.
- Knowledge of electrical standards such as NFPA 79, IEC 60204-1, and UL508A.
- Experience with Beckhoff and Siemens platforms.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, ProfiNet, FSoE, and ProfiSafe.
Candidate Requirements
- Full-time availability for at least 12 weeks starting May 2025.
- Must be able to work on-site, 40 hours per week.
- International students must ensure eligibility for full-time CPT authorization before applying.
