Junior Engineer Intern – Summer 2025
We are seeking a motivated Junior Engineer Intern for the Summer 2025 term to join our dynamic and growing team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with a team of Electrical, Marine, Mechanical, Structural Engineers, and Naval Architects at our Washington, DC office. As an intern, you will provide technical support for various engineering ship design projects, contributing both individually and as part of a team. Your primary focus will be to support the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and the Military Sealift Command (MSC).
In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in engineering services support, which may include electrical design, electrical power load analysis, fault current analyses, short circuit analyses, panel sizing, cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, electrical circuit drawings, work item development, selected record drawing (SRD) updates, cost estimates, ship checks, and other new business technical work document preparation. All tasks will be completed in compliance with drawing standards and marine design practices.
Responsibilities
You will be expected to perform engineering site visits and ship checks at various Navy and Commercial Shipyards. During these visits, you will conduct electrical analyses, generate 2D electrical design drawings, and implement electrical power systems, electromechanical systems, and control system modifications. Your designs will need to meet both commercial and naval engineering requirements.
You will also be tasked with performing electrical feasibility and trade-off studies for the selection of generators, motors, variable frequency drives, transformers, Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), control panels, cables, timers, circuit breakers, power panels, batteries, and relays.
Additional responsibilities will include performing preliminary checks of electrical drawings, conducting Excel calculations, collaborating with senior engineering staff to generate final electrical technical products (e.g., 2D AutoCAD schematic drawings), and reviewing regulatory rules and commercial regulations. Strong interpersonal skills will be required to work effectively with others and communicate complex technical issues.
Qualifications
To qualify for this internship, you must be pursuing a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Engineering (BSE/BE), or a BS/AS in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET). You must also be able to obtain and maintain the required clearance.
Candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical abilities, and the ability to create graphical representations and PowerPoint presentations. You should also be willing to travel up to 10% of the time and perform design ship checks onboard MSC and Navy ships.
Experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software is required, and the ability to multitask and work effectively in a team-oriented environment is essential.

Compensation
The proposed salary range for this position is $36,300–$72,600, depending on various factors such as geographic location, prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
